Now, what most people just don't understand is that if you want something, you have to work for it. Our society of credit, basing our lives on money owed, has lessened the value of working for what you want, for fighting for what you have.
Revolutionaries preach, they get the blood of the people boiling, and then.. nothing. In the 220 years that the United States has been a country, there has been no significant changes in the way the government functions. There have been great leaders, men and women who have changed the social and moral standards of our society. Laws and amendments to the Constitution have been made. But Big Brother has only expanded his power.
The founding fathers creating a government when they were terrified of making something that would assume control of everything. The government established in 1787 was one that set basic guidelines for life in the country, and that government was not made to assume all control. In fact, it still hasn't. But what is clearly misunderstood by all those who stand to fight the man is that the United States government was made so that if the people so decided, they could take it down.
Clearly, this would take the action of a vast majority of the population, not the one disgruntled war veteran or the group of kids who think anarchy is the answer. No, what a true revolutionary change of our government would take is the one thing that is country absolutely does not have: Unity.
Diversity is not, by any means, a bad thing. But revolution will only happen when enough people care to do something, when a common ground is found and when everyone has the same goal. This does not mean a bunch of people marching to the White House and burning it to the ground will destroy the government. Mob mentality and the subsequent destruction is very different from a planned revolt.
The problem is, I don't see a revolution happening anytime in the near future. The circumstances must warrant the reaction if a true revolution is to happen. Maybe when our war turns against us, and is fought on our own soil. Maybe when there is a powerful, oppressive leader in office. Perhaps then the people of this country will decide they have had enough and unite to stand against everything that is wrong and unjust. Maybe.
I don't believe in preaching about revolution and offering no solutions, and I'm aware that I've done just that. So here's my solution. If you want to change things, be aware. Don't agree with the guy next to you because what he says sounds good. If you can't form your own opinions and ideas, then find a reason to. Find something to stand against, and find other people who feel the same way. Engage in something that you have to work hard for. If you want to change the world, work to lay the groundwork for that change and push for it, fight for it! Maybe then, you can accomplish change and prove my cynicism wrong. I dare you to try.
