The Smashing Pumpkins

Smashing Pumpkins are LITERALLY the first rock n roll band I ever liked.... I had only liked hip hop as a kid until i stayed up late one night to catch Saturday Night Live. They played Cherub Rock and I remember thinking the sounds of their guitars were awesome. Thick Fuzzbox Distortion! But at that time I had never even touched a guitar. I also thought Corgan's shirt was so gay, but at the same time I felt like it was the first time I saw a "rocker" that didn't have such a queer look - spandex, long puffy hair, and pink make-up. Kind of ironic no?

Anyways, Siamese Dream was the very first CD I ever bought...

*well actually it was the 2nd. The first was a rap CD by the dude that sang "Back in the day when I was young I'm not a kid any more but someday...." Horrible album.... Anyways let's just rewrite history for the sake of this blog... heh heh

...Siamese Dream was the very first CD I ever bought and it pretty much changed the way I look at music in general. I started liking "alternative rock" in the 90's, which is still way better than any of the gay bands coming out these days. I became a Smashing Pumpkins fanatic... I bought all the records, including a ton of B-Sides, I bought all the videos, I had a cool poster in my room that I still have to this day, I think I had a couple of T-shirts and a gang load of magazines....

I also became a guitar player as a direct result of watching them that Saturday night on TV. I was 13 and I wanted to rock out and make just as much noise as their amps did..... And though I'm very happy with the style I play and the music I've made I know I am still lightyears away from ever having Corgan's skills... but that's okay...

The one thing that has eluded me is that I have still not seen them live! Now I have a chance to change that....
