Coheed and Cambria: Building a Tower of Strength

Where o where has rock music gone? Ever since the loss of Nirvana and grunge, the rock world has been sadly walking in circles, trying to reshape itself, lost on a ship at sea trying to find the next something to believe in. Adrift in macho Adidas Rock, nerdy college rock and tear in your soda pop emo; rock and roll has been in the doldrums for over a decade. Well, finally something has come along that both the critics and the fans are beginning to find a mutual jaw-dropping, mouthwatering fervor for.

Good Apollo, Im Burning Star IV, Volume 1: From Fear Through the Eyes of Madness, Coheeds admittingly tongue-tying new album, is a force to be reckoned with, unlike any album in recent memory. A modern hybrid of progressive rock, metal and indie rock; with a dark, frightening twist to an old fashioned love story, Coheed is winning them (men and women) over in droves. Its not an easy swallow at first, the common early comparisons to Rush are understood, but quickly dismissed once you dip your toes in. Coheed are defining a new strain of rock, Classic rock roots with modern power, catchiness and complexity.

Coheed is not the band of the month - far from it. Building a rabid following since 2001s Second Stage Turbine Blade, the band has stacked their loyal admirers, a tower cultivated brick by brick, achieving Gold Status with their sophomore release In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: Three upon a foundation that is awe inspiring. The accompanying dvd Live at the Starland Ballroom has also gone Gold.

Their fans are rewarded with relentless touring, never failing energy and a new stage set up that includes a 14-foot functional guillotine, and beautiful 10 foot art pieces from singer Claudio Sanchezs new 124 page graphic novel that reveals that story behind Good Apollo.

This is not just a US phenomenon, Coheed sold out their recent 2000 cap show in london in 10 days with mostly internet only promotions. Torontos 3000 cap concert has sold out well over a week in advance. South America, Mexico, Australia and Asia are demanding the band come to tour.
