The label was started in 2002 with the The Blackouts debut album Everyday is a Sunday Evening. The label was originally conceived of as a way for Chris Broach to release his own projects (including his solo material, L'Spaerow, Life at Sea, & The Firebird Band). When friend and band mate - John Isberg - joined The Blackouts, the decision was made to extend the label's reach to other talented and deserving artists. These were artists that were going unnoticed and underappreciated in their own home towns and with local labels. Lucid stepped in to help these artists to be given a fair deal and to get their music represented.
Lucid has put out albums for indie artists across the country and is expanding its reach to artists outside of the USA. Currently including Lokbrá and The Blakhiv from Iceland. More to come.
In 2007, the addition of Jason Gruen as the first full time employee has helped to continue to expand the label's reach and goals.
Lucid Records is exclusively distributed by the Lumberjack Mordam Music Group.
