Trying out Lightroom

By Sloan on 06.05.07 @ 03:00PM | 5 reads
So, I've decided to get back into photography. It may be the weather outside, but for some reason I have had the itch to take photos. Living in a historically rich town also adds to the fever of getting out side and hitting that trigger. A few months ago I conviced the wife to let me buy the Canon Rebel XT as I was tired of our point and shoot digital cameras. Since then I have taken tons of photos, from weddings to outdoor shots and just uploaded them into iPhoto where they currently sit. iPhoto is great for keeping files, but I needed more. I decided that I probably should start doing something with them. Pulling them into Photoshop and manipulating them was OK, but not the best tool. I'm better at Photoshop when it comes to designing for web. It also doesn't allow for editing/viewing multiple images at once very well. Reading other tech blogs, I've heard pros and cons about Lightroom and Aperature (Apple's answer to Lightroom). Seeing how Aperature doesn't come with a free trial, I downloaded Lightroom. That was a definite pro for me, even though I love Apple products. Importing my first roll this morning gave very good results. I clicked around trying a few things here and there. I was amazed at the response time of the app. Things ran very smoothly and changes were instantaneous. Very powerful app. I changed a few settings on the files I imported, but not too indepth. My next step will be to read up more on what it can do. So far I am very pleased with Lightroom and possibly at the end of the thirty day trial, will be buying a copy.
