Soooo... did anyone else see the MTV VMI awards last night? Or were you already aware of the fact that every year it's just another commercialized hour and a half of disgust and dismay...
Starting the night was a performance of Britney Spears's new hit "Gimme More" which could have been a great moment for her to re-claim her spot in the pop world. Instead the lip-synching was way off, the body language was flacid, and her eyes looked way glazed over. To be honest, I was rooting for her and I know she can still make a come back, but last night's performance was a downer...
Following her in my opinion was just a bunch of unorganized hoopla and mindless performances... EXCEPT for Chris Brown who is by far the next IT in the world of Performance, Dance, and Hip-Hop. This guy is well ahead of the rest of the music world; even Justin Timberlake (who took home 4 awards: Quadruple Threat of the Year, Best Director, Best Choreography, and Male Artist of the Year) gave Chris mad props. Rihanna was also hot, taking home both Video of the Year and Monster Single of the Year.
And then there was the fight between Kid Rock and Tommy Lee which wasn't aired, and Kanye apparently thew a fit backstage because he didn't win anything. The bitter sound of Gym Class Falls Out (ironic duet name) took home some awards... don't really know what else to say about them.
One cool thing that was different this year was that they had rooms reserved in the hotel for partying which I think is a cool idea for the fans, but what about the REAL in-house performances that we're used to? I think MTV needs to re-amp next years Awards ceremony BIG TIME and get back to their roots of Music Videos.
Whatever... I'll just have to look forward to the new albums coming out this year (Foo Fighters, Hot Hot Heat, Kanye, Motion City Soundtrack, Avenged Sevenfold, Underworld, and Jimmy Eat World)
